The Screw Cupid Story

I consider myself an observationalist (see: intellectual slacker). Through my diligent research, I have come up with three absolutes:

1. McDonald’s fries are the single greatest food on earth and therefore, hold the key to world peace.

2. Musical styles may come and go, but for my money it doesn’t get any better than Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me.”

3. Women are so diabolically clever I have no choice but to give up and fear them.

My girlfriend in college, to use the medical term, sucked ass. One day, when I came back to our apartment and found someone else’s tequila in my kitchen, someone else’s razor in my bathroom, and someone else in my girlfriend, I thought it was as good a time as any to pack up everything I could fit into my car and drive to LA to start my career in filmmaking. She actually yelled at me because I didn’t knock first.

While she did leave my stomach to digest my heart, I did find myself in an interesting situation. Sure, we all know what it feels like to be in love; everything looks like it’s in hi-def, Celine Dion songs all of a sudden don’t seem so overdramatic, and you can’t help but feel and overwhelming sense of warmth inside the arms of love’s embrace. But what do you do when love kicks you in the nuts?

This was the predominant question in my mind when I started to write SCREW CUPID.

People forget friends they had in high school’s names, championship sports scores, or even what they had for dinner last week, but I defy you to find someone who can’t tell you with pinpoint accuracy and in excruciating detail who it was and how that first person broke their heart. People deal with love’s initial fallout in different ways and how they deal greatly influences who they are, or sometimes more importantly, who they need to be in order to protect who they are. SCREW CUPID is an after love story, dealing with what happens when love comes the second time around and your biggest obstacle this time, might be yourself.

Sincerely,

Sanjeev Sirpal
